PostSubject: researcing value for Basso #300 1946 2D Gold Token & Basso #96 1861 Silver Medal    Sat Nov 09, 2013 2:35 pm

Hello. I just received back from NGC, perhaps, the finest known example of the 1946 Philippines 2D Gold Token, Basso 300, commemorating Philippines Independence. The token is graded NGC MS66. A real Gem! I am aware it is extremely rare and the true mintage my be unknown, which also makes it difficult to determine it's value. Also, I have an 1861 Silver Isabella II Proclamation Medal, Basso 96, NCG MS 62. If anyone knows of any recent sales for this token and medal I would be appreciative. Thanks.

Hi treeguy,

Congrats for the acquisition of these rare medals and welcome to this forum. Regarding your question, I have already encountered both medals sold at the local and international auctions but not in graded conditions. The 1946 medal is rarer than the 1861 proclamation medal and considering that it was minted in gold makes it a true gem in Philippine numismatics. The 1861 proclamation medal is more documented and it was minted in the Spanish-Manila Mint. I cannot give the an estimate for these medals since as I have told you, none of the previous realized prices were based on graded / slabbed conditions. Their prices might go beyond expectation if they will be sold to international auction houses. Hope this helps.

Regards,
FN
