Any new discoveries in Philippine numismatic in recent years? I remember the Pasay excavation where cob coins were found and of course the famous Piloncitos found by a farmer.

In some countries before they dig there is a archeologist present to make sure that it is not a archeological site,it might be also applicable in the Philippine and due to frequent flooding the artifacts will be deeper, but in the past some archeologist gets help from a construction worker for they are the one who digs,now maybe mostly acheological students and it cost to study especially in the Philippines,for those who accindentally found something they should record it when and where or how deep for future reference and the goverment should also look out and support who is involved,maybe its time that Philppines should have its own treasure trove law,just a comment.

The discoveries of buried coins are quite interesting, but in terms of news, they get buried in some corner of the newspaper, if they ever get printed at all. One thing I have discovered over time, is that Philippine coins do not stay put, at a certain diameter size, unlike other countries. I am discovering the 25Centavo and 1centavo is interesting in it's size range evolution over the years

Not only the centavo, the Piso has changed from 36mm diameter to a small one as of today, with intermediates in between, I find that to be an interesting collectable to follow

The devaluation of the Philippine Pesos and the cost of metal going up is the cause of coin changing sizes. Sometimes the metal cost is higher the the denomination of the coin.

When I am in the Philippines, I always try to check some friends from the National Museum for recent diggings and excavations. They have vast information on current and up to date activities regarding archeological finds and discoveries.
