| It is quite a while when I finally remember this thing that I want to ask out there.. What is a coin Pattern? Why are there Coin Patterns for some issues and none for other issues? Why are there coin Patterns for the same issue made of different metals? What is the purpose of coin Patterns? Are coin Patterns only of recent times? Are there no coin Patterns for Phil-Spanish coins? thanks... |

| Hi Al, Here is some info i found from about.com "Definition: A pattern coin is a coin that has been created as an example, and is not meant for circulation. Pattern coins have been created for a variety of reasons, including sample coins for VIPs (such as congressmen voting on coin legislation), and for testing various designs and die cuts in the mint equipment." I was able to get one coin patter of Imelda/Marcos from an Auction, im not sure though why its quite pricey even if it has no silver content. Maybe because of the fact that its just a trial coin/pattern.... therefor, limited... I hope i was able to enlighten even a bit |
