| I started collecting modern Philippine commemorative coins last year and so far I have only twelve pieces. Of these coins, six are very beautiful but the other six are for replacement (mostly the first coins taken are with problems). Most of these are common and usually available during auctions. I plan to dispose the problematic coins upon getting their replacement. My target is to get at least one coin every month and if you can spare some extra commemorative coins out there, kindly offer it to me. Thanks.. |

| I am concentrating on silver commemorative coins only and so far, it is just a start. I like the one peso series (1947, 1961, 1963, 1964, 1967, 1969 and 1970), the last one 1970 is the costliest of these seven coins and the hardest to find. I encountered several of the coins but they are either too costly of the asking price or uglier than expected. Also, I can afford only a few coins once in a while, as I rely on my monthly government pension and that is only a little (cannot even afford to buy gasoline for my old car). Most of my twelve coins are 25 and 50. |

| yes the 1970 is hard to find and is more expensive than the others. i have a few pieces and i bought them at an average of 1400-1500 per piece which i think is a bit higher than average but i don't think there is much choice these days |

| There are several Modern Commemorative Coins of the Philippines and it seems that the most sought after or many would like to have are the Pope coin series. There are two sets of Papal Commemorative coins issued (for Pope Paul VI and the other for Pope John Paul II). There are more than a dozen of the coins consisting of Gold, Silver and Nickel mints. The easiest to get are the nickel issues and they are the cheapest also and are still many around. Hope you have one or two for they say these coins brings good luck. |

Wow! im so out of touch on today's market prices. in 2009 i got mine for $9.99 or about P463. it's hard for me to buy commemoratives way over 1k now knowing that a few years ago they were just barely P500. i hope the global economy improves soon so the price of precious metals would go down. |

| I only got a few of these Modern Commemorative Coins and half of them were from last year and were priced at an average of P500 and the later ones from this year is priced at average of P1000, the effect of the sudden rise in the price of silver which reached a high of Forties (dollars per ounce), but now that the value has been averaging at 36 dollars, prices of these coins did not came down. The USPI silver coin prices at Mang Totoy of Quiapo has been lowered, as I talked with him yesterday, he buys at P630 the small peso and P700 the big one (but sells for a profit of course). His Modern commemorative coins are also priced higher than most stores, because maybe he is not familiar with it.. |

| In my opinion, the prices of commemorative coins will only lower if the seller acquired it at a price when silver was still way way low...
like in my case, i got interested with commemorative coins at a time when silver was almost at 50$ per ounce... so i got my collection at a high price...
in that case, when i decide to sell my collection years from now, my basis will be how much i got my coins (which was ranging between 45-50$ per ounce)....
Maybe Mang Totoy cannot really lower his price for the Commemorative coins because he got them at the time when silver was at its peak... |

| mang totoy currently sells the 1907-1909 for 800 a piece. the 1903-1905 pesos he is selling for 1500 each.
i personally do not remember nor know my average purchase price for the commemorative coins. all i know is that the coins i've purchased in the past is cheaper than what i've acquired recently. im not sure if the prices will decrease over the years but so far from what i've seen, it hasn't happened yet. |

| Keeping records is a common problem. This happened with my USPI collection, because it started way back, when it was not yet too interesting for me, I just collect and keep it away and sometimes lost some. So when I started this Modern Commemorative Coin collection, I made record for each coin. The last time I visited Mang Totoy at Quipo, we had another friendly trade, I swap a Fine 1910 for Extra Fine Minus and a Fine Minus 1909 for a Very Fine, and gave him P100 for each coin. He offered me, a Fine 1912 for P1200, which I refused and a Extra Fine 1912 for P1800 which I accepted. |

| i have a record of the coins i currently have but didn't record the acquisition price for each. looking at a certain coin, i however have a certain idea on how much i paid for it.
i find mang totoy's coins pretty cheap. the quality of the coins however is something else. first batch of coins (1903-1905 1 peso) as well as a bunch of 50 cent coins were of good quality. the second batch however were just ugly to say the least. it was unfortunate that i asked someone to pick up the items for me since i was busy at the time therefore i only saw the coins after the deal was done. |
