tracy,

from my check with local dealers last week,

1961 Unc jose rizal peso, 1963 Unc mabini peso, 1964 Unc bonifacio peso sell for around Php 1,300.00 each.

1975, 1976 8 piece specimen sets are still available at Php 2,500 - Php 2,600.

1975 proof marcos 50 peso (with display case and stand) was being sold for Php 1,700 (unc sells basically for the same amount)

1978 quezon 25 peso would cost around Php 1,200.00

and finally the 1947 half peso sells for around Php 800.00

im sure these prices would have changed a bit by now since we last checked with JC coins on monday. Went to a dealer yesterday as well but didn't see any of these commemoratives. I was told however that the base selling prices for the 1907 small peso is still 850 per piece.

thanks ericgo. is your last name Go?.

o.k. are those prices were the selling price or buying price. if selling price. what will be the buying price then?. if buying price. what will be the selling price for those you mentioned. please reply and thanks again.

furthermore. the prices you gave me. is based on how much spot silver at that time?. cause only today and yesterday. silver went up around 3% to 4%.

Hi Tracy,

yes my last name is Go.

those were the selling prices (these are the prices i would pay if i wanted to buy these coins from the dealer) of the coins from some local dealers. their buying prices would be around 100 up to 200 pesos lower. margins would sometimes be higher if they are lucky enough to come across someone who desperately needs some cash.

When i last checked on the commemoratives, silver was at $37.80/oz.

ericgo. so you are chinese or half filipino chinese. right?.

yes i am filipino-chinese.

well, the prices depend on the dealer. some dealers would adjust the prices according to the current market price of silver while there are a few who base their selling prices solely on their acquisition price. From what i have experienced, the prices are pretty stable for the short term as most dealers who sell the commemorative coins base their selling on their acquisition prices.

ericgo - do you speak chinese?. i do speak chinese.
if i was there. i will buy all the specimen sets that they have. and i will not buy the 25 peso due to 50% premium attached on those 50% silver coins. let me give you the prices some 30 years ago.

1975 50 peso proof - 200 peso
1975 25 peso proof - 150 peso
1975 proof set - 450 peso
1975 specimen set - 600 peso

now the 1975 50 peso proof went up from 200 peso to 1,700 peso. that's up 750%. 1975 specimen set went up from 600 peso to 2,500 peso. that's up 317%. so the specimen set is way undervalued. the set is only calculate their two coins silver value. they forgot to calculate the other 6 coin.

now. let's talk about the u.s. one ounce american eagle silver proof, burnished uncirculated (like proof-like, or specimen) and bullion uncirculated. based on today spot silver. the one ounce proof will cost $83.95 or 3,614 peso. burnished unc. will cost $71.95 or 3,270 peso. and the bullion unc. will cost $46.29 or 1,993 peso. and you have to add shipping charges ranging from $4.95 to $12.95 regardless of how many coins you want. but not too many. it might be based on weight for too many. and you also have to pay insurance fee when you want it for safety purpose. as a whole. coin will be so expensive. but look at the philippines. very very few collectors and investors. thus everything mainly based on bullion value. that is quiet cheap. in american. when a coin come out and become a popular one. even the cost of that coin is very high as i mentioned above. but millions of collectors and investors can easily push that coin to several hundred percent higher and still very hard to get them.

hi Tracy, unfortunately i do not speak chinese.

interestingly, the proof eagles here are pretty cheap. Plus here in the philippines they really do not differentiate the BU from the Unc. I buy mine from jun cuartero, he usually sells the proof eagles to me at a price from 2800 - 3000 pesos because his basis for the selling price is 1) his acquisition price and 2) the "per oz" selling price of silver here in the philippines.

Im surprised that the eagles are very expensive in the US. If you were to go to Canada and buy bullion coins, you can probably get them cheaper since the premium they put on the coins are lower.

Mang totoy is located at 650 Quezon blvd. Manila and his telephone number is 734-0071

ericgo. you are very lucky that you got eagle proof at the old price. just yesterday. the dealers here increase the american proof eagle from $64.99 to $82.99. and the upcoming 2011 american eagle proof will be out this june 30. the price will depend on the price of silver during that month june. if i based on today's spot silver of $41.00/oz. the u.s. mint should offer that eagle proof at $83.95 each. plus shipping $4.95. regardless of number of coins order. and thanks for the address and phone number.

why you said that the BU and the UNC don't differentiate. proof is not BU. BU and UNC were the same. eagle bullion might consist of BU and UNC, that is around $46.29 for 2011 issue. and we also have UNC with w mint mark. which is burnished UNC. that one is costing $69.99. also came with box and certificate. and lastly eagle proof with box and certificate of authenticity. this one is $82.99 each. an eagle proof missing or without box and certificate cost very much lesser. tell me which one you got.

i should have clarified that when i posted BU i meant the Burnished Unc.

here in the philippines the burnished unc usually sell for the same amount as the regular unc eagles.

i've gotten proofs with complete box and coa's and those coins without the box & coa. Locally the proof eagle without the box & coa would sell for 400 - 500 pesos less. I've gotten a bunch of eagles recently though that had proofs (no box, coa) mixed in with unc eagles and were sold to me for Php 2000 each. The seller knew there were proofs mixed in with the unc but just wanted to dispose of the eagles.

btw, i head that the US mint stopped selling the unc eagles?

let me tell you the story about the 1995w 5 pc american eagle gold and silver proof set. that year is to commemorate the 10th anniversary of this series. the u.s. mint sell that set for $999.00. during 1995. that set is considered very expensive. very few people like to buy american eagle gold. and the spot gold is low and very disappointed. the mint was clever enough to offer a free 1995w silver eagle without cost to collectors. the set have 5 pc instead of regular 4 pc. and only this year have 5. i bought 6 set. 2 each for us a family of three. then. prices still fallen for few years. suddenly gold start to move up. and that 5 pc set became rarest of all eagle familes. prefect proof 70 condition reached as high as $35,000.00 for each set. and raw set never slabbed before at around $7,500.00. and the broke up set. which means only the 1995w silver dollar cost a lot. now it was stabilized. you can see the single silver dollar at the above cost $2,995.00 and the set cost $6,095.00 per set. now i still owned those six sets. no plan to sell them.

they sell for 400-500 pesos LESS

if the original proof eagle sells for Php 3,000.00 with complete box & coa then the proof eagle without the box and coa would sell for 400-500 pesos less meaning they would sell for Php 2500 - Php 2600.

I never said they sold for 400 to 500 pesos each.

to al.plata: did you buy any gold coin?. the first spouse 1/2 ounce buchanan unc gold that i mintioned to you is already sold out. last price is $866.00. sooner or later it should go up to $1,095.00. in line with its proof counterpart. and if the gold coin further up in line with other three liberty gold series. it should be around $1,425.00 to $1,575.00. but this one should take few more months to accomplish.

mintage: 5,194

p.s. this gold coin will not follow spot gold up and down. it is a collection item. it is based on supply and demand by collectors.

other liberty series: mintage and retail price.
2007w jefferson's liberty proof - 20,000 ---- $795.00 (based on bullion gold)
2007w jefferson's liberty unc --- 20,000 ---- $795.00 (based on bullion gold)
2008w van buren's liberty proof - 4,515 -- $1,525.00
2008w van buren's liberty unc --- 4,334 -- $1,575.00
2008w jackson' liberty proof ------7,806 -- $1,475.00
2008w jackson's liberty unc -------4,754 -- $1,425.00
2010w buchanan's liberty proof ---7,304 -- $1,095.00
2010w buchanan's liberty unc -----5,194 ---- $950.00 (price should go up to $1,095.00 soon).

I hardly buy any coins from Mabini because of the high prices asked compared with Mang Totoy of Quiapo. Further, when I used to go there, it seems that most owners have changed, there are now more Muslim traders, and during those days I hardly talked with the dealers. Better ask other collectors and / or dealers for reference at Mabini..
