A friend asked me how should one start to collect coins. And of course I can not answer immediately and have been thinking about it for along time now. When I began this hobby, I started collecting coins by trying to complete the coins by its years. But I just get all coins I found and now I have so many coins and most are ugly coins good only for their silver contents. I only found out that there were many beautiful coins out there when I started attending coin auctions. Then again, I also won "not so pretty" coins from these auctions but I am still very happy because they are improvements to my collection. All I can advise to anybody out there is just be patient and attend these coin auctions as beautiful coins usually are on sale. One consolation I have from the ugly coins I have are that most were paid cheap, for example an ugly peso coin that cost me P250 back ago was sold for its silver value last week for P500.
