Is the Filipinas 1897 Un Peso also counterfeited?

If it is -- what are the 'red flags' to watch out for? I have three of these, and they all seemed similar. My first one acquired around lated 1980s.

Yes. There are both contemporary counterfeit and modern chinese fakes of these issue. If you bought it in the 1980's it could be a contemporary counterfeit coz modern Chinese fakes were mostly made when China opened during the 90's. As of now, I have identified 4 ebay seller in ebay.ph who are selling modern Chinese copies. They are snow_bear_00, crisostomo29, ernestodu01, and andok2. The first 3 sell coins while andok2 buy to them so they could increase their feedback. This is a crafty scam in order to make the auction appears realistic. These are private listed auctions so please don't participate even if the coins being sold are very tempting since most of them have catalog values of no less than $2K each.

Thanks for the heads up on those sellers. Those scammers are giving novice collectors quite a headache. As it goes -- knowledge is the key.

BTW -- I didn't imply that my Un Peso are counterfeits. I'm asking if what are the basic things to look out for? Weight for one is given.

I have not seen (or encounter) any yet, so images would be a big favor for all collectors.

Here is a fake counterstamp YII Dos Mondos being sold by an ebay seller from Spain. Both the counterstamp and the host coin are modern Chinese reproduction. The edge is very obviously fake and the counterstamp otherwise. It seems that the C/S is not a stamp but actually a part of the die.

I noticed that modern fake dos mondos have thicker planchet compared that with the original aside from that, the tulip on the reed seem to be blooming rather than that of the original which has tulips. Anyway, may I ask you Kolektor why do you think these sellers on Ebay.ph are selling fakes anymore reasons coz I saw that one of them have already received positive feedbacks. Please explain.

Meron akong fake na 1897 Un Peso na gawa sa zinc...matagal na sa akin. Madali mahalata dahil magaan. Yung mga fake na nakikita ko ngayon sa bangketa ay kinakalawang.
