There is a link in wikipedia.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Coins_of_the_Philippine_peso

2004

Anyone know what is the borderline or release date of nickel plated steel one piso.

Just found a 2003 it stick in the magnet.

It could be fake or BSP struck 2003 coins in NPS in the past or they are restriking now with different year beside 2004 upwards.

Any info?

There are two metal for 2003 1 Piso the Cuni copper nickel and the nickel plated steel.

Weight of cuni is 6.1 g
Weight of CpS is 5.4 g

Troy oz of cuni is .19
Troy oz of CpS is .17

Cps attract to magnet while Cuni dont.

Same on on 25 centavos.

Around 0.2 g difference in weight and .1 difference in oz.

CZ 25 cent. dont attract to magnet while CZplated steel attract to magnet.

BSP changed the composition of our coins from 1 peso to 1 centavo because of massive exportation to China and Korea. These coins are made of copper so most likely that its worth are more than its face value. From non magnetic, it becomes magnetic. Meanwhile, the 10 piso magnetic coins are most likely a counterfeit coins. I have here a 2005 and 2009 10-piso but they're not magnetic.

Sorry correction on 25 cent. the 2003 is just .01 oz

.11 to .12

weight do vary from one coin to another.

Seen some entry on the web about the changing of metal composition due to high value of copper on that time.

Seen that the release date of steel is around may dont know the year.

Much better to have a publication of letter of release or report from BSP.

I will just search it again and compile it here.

Much better if there is a chronology of past events to catalog.

What lead to changing of metal most of them are written in the web and news website.

Like how much amount or estimate One piso coin smuggled.

For future ref.

http://www.accessmylibrary.com/article-1G1-148172050/cheaper-lighter-steel-peso.html

It is mostly in year 2006.

I think even the government has no accurate data on how many coins are smuggled out of the country because most of the smuggling activities are carried out under the nose of authorities due to lack of education and information by authorities.
