PostSubject: The hunt for a new starnote   Wed Jul 29, 2009 7:19 am

This kind of note appeared in circulation just last year. I am doing some research and further interview with the BSP so I could publish an article regarding this note. Meanwhile I am posting the pictures I got from PINOYNOTES who is also a member of this forum as reference for note collectors.

FN Very Happy

Hi coolpit,

Seen only in the 500 peso bill. Initial report from the BSP said that it is actually an error note. No exact mintage of these notes.

A question from the ignorant:

What's the difference between a regular note and a star note? Why are star notes produced in the first place?

DIC, as per my research, it is really an error. Supposedly it is an asterisk and BSP just noticed it when they released the notes.

Ah i see. So it's supposed to be an asterisk. That's interesting. But why are there notes with asterisks in the first place? what's the purpose for that special design?

Hi DIC,

Got this definition from a site:
Replacement Note - one which has been issued to replace a damaged, destroyed or lost note. You can usually identify a replacement note by its serial number. Some, such as on U. S. currency, have a star at the beginning of the serial number. Thus, replacement notes of the United States are known as "star notes." Notes from other countries might have an asterisk, or start with the letter R or the number 9, for example, depending on the country. Usually a replacement note is in demand, depending of course on its condition, because it's quite a bit scarcer than the so-called regular notes.

Maybe its the same procedure here. Im not so sure.

Nice info FN,I dont know if someone will get a brick notes or one bundle of notes what is the rate they will get one star note,

Star note is not that often found maybe in one bundle you can get one if your lucky.

its nice also to ask the BSP in some other countries the head are hard to find and have an interview,
other email there mint or in other countries they ask the expert or the TPG,
you can try coinlink to published your article to have exposure or news much better if it is available in two site,
if there are many prolific numismatic writter in Philippines they can write an article and forward it to coinlink if they like no harm in trying,Im still learning.

Star note is one thing, how about two different serial numbers in one note?

Seen in the web about wikipedia timeline(1978) http://www.google.ie/search?q=two+different+serial+number+error+note+history&hl=en&sa=G&tbo=p&tbs=tl:1,tll:1978/07,tlh:1978/07&ei=X0mPSoLqB-OrjAeKrpnjDQ&oi=toolbelt_timeline_result&resnum=3&ct=timeline-date in two different serial notes,if Im not mistaken that they are using two plate in US the federal and the state plate.
I dont know how they print the Philippines notes today.only expert can know, thats why officials in the mint is not easy to interview they have to do thier job.

There are some old 2 peso notes rizal issue have star notes, maybe it can go back as far as the notes issue in the Philippines under US administration, if Filipino know someone who have old notes what to show to numismatic in the Philippines, maybe they can inquire in this forum,to all my relatives and someone I know if they have notes and coins that they dont want,I offer to look at them just incase to have a new find.
